The BEST toddler scooter out there by far
This scooter is simply the best one out there - because the 2 wheels are in the front, they don't get in the way of the kids trying kicking off with their feet. And because to turn, they have to lean vs steer, I feel it is safer as it tends to just go straight. As the kids improve, they figure out how to turn, but that's what's so good, they do it at their own pace. Even though this scooter says it's for age 3, we bought it for my son's 2nd birthday because he tried someone else's and shocked us by being able to ride it well. He had tried those other 3-wheeled scooters with the 2 wheels in the back and couldn't really ride them - the design of this one is just so superior. He absolutely LOVES LOVES LOVES it and just about every day, people ask how old he is and they are shocked, they say they can't believe how well a 2-year-old can ride a scooter. But it's not him, it's this scooter! Don't waste your money on the cheap "cartoony" scooters, just get one of these, your kids will be zipping around in minutes!
Per manufacturers website, the weight limit is 70 lbs; Not 44 lbs! :-)
I was considering purchasing this for my 5 year girl but when I saw the weight restriction of 44 lbs, I was hesitant thinking she would outgrow it within the next year.
However, after checking out the manufacturers website, I found this when has now made me decide to purchase this safer looking scooter than others for my little girl:
"* The mini scooter is designed with a weight recommendation of 70lbs. Please note that the bottom of the scooter shows a weight limit of 20kg, which is 44 lbs. The reason for the discrepancy is that European standards dictate that weights are displayed only in increments of 20, 50 and 100kg."
Fantastic Scooter BUT you will need replacement parts
My six year old is still riding this scooter (he's just under the weight limit), and I wish they made one for older kids. We live in NYC, and he uses it to get back and forth to school every day, and pretty much everywhere else. He got a Huffy model when he was 3, and when that fell apart we bought this one (since the new Huffy model is nowhere near as good). My one major complaint is that the back wheel wears down pretty quickly, and we are on our third replacement brake. The parts are easy to order online. The site is called minimicrousa (or something like that). Interestingly, this site claims that the weight limit is actually 70 pounds.
Product Description
Designed for kids ages 3-5, the mini kick is the quality choice in children's scooters. The mini won the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold and the Platinum Award Seals for Best Toy in 2009. The mini kick also was named 'Best Pre-School Scooter' by Toy Report and 'Best Outdoor Toy' by Learning Express Stores. What makes the mini unique is its its 'lean-and-steer' design, which allows children to use their body weight to control the steering, giving them the feeling of 'surfing' the sidewalk, as they curve from right to left, almost like a skateboard. The lean-and-steer adds an element of fun and control that young children love. The mini kick's 3 wheels provide greater stability, making it easier for even the youngest kids to learn to ride. Great for their balance and coordination. The wheels are Italian-made of highest quality PU, especially for micro. They provide a smooth glide, making the Mini almost effortless to ride. The wheels also make for a quiet ride, a joy for parents and children alike. The mini kick can be ridden inside as well as outside, because the polyurethane wheels don't leave black marks on the floor. The deck of the mini is low-to-the-ground and large enough for both feet, making it easy for young children to hop on and off and to switch from pushing, to just enjoying the ride. The 'spoon' brake at the back adds additional control - kids like the control and also because it looks just like the big kids' scooters. For parents, the mini's light weight (only 3.3lbs), means it's easy to pick up and carry when need be, and makes it easier for the kids themselves to pick up and maneuver. Note: - the mini kick can hold weights up to 60lbs, when used for cruising, but was not designed for jumps or tricks. For a scooter designed to do jumps and tricks, please see the amazing mx park stunt scooter!
